Morphology Circle @ Penn State
Welcome to our homepage! Our research focuses on issues relate to 'words' and the mental lexicon and the syntax-morphology interface. We adopt a decompositional approach to the formation of these structural units. Along these lines, we understand 'morphology' to be distributed across differ modules of grammar rather than housed in any particular domain. From a more experimental perspective, we investigate issues related to the storage and computation of lexical items in an attempt to better understand the general properties of the mental lexicon. Our research extends beyond synchronic grammar, and also includes research on diachronic developments at the syntax-morphology interface. We hold weekly lab meetings during the semester. This semester (Fall 2024) we'll meet on Mondays from 10-11am in Burrowes 157. During these meetings we discuss current literature, receive training on new data elicitation techniques, and provide feedback on student presentations (among other things). If you are interested in attending, or being involved in our research group in any capacity, please contact Prof. Mike Putnam ([email protected]). Every semester we also host an online (via Zoom) speaker series. Invited speakers from Penn State and beyond present their research and engage in a Q&A following their presentation. The schedule for the Fall 2024 can be found to the right under Fall 2024 Speaker Series. If you would like to attend these presentations via Zoom, please contact Prof. Mike Putnam ([email protected]). Our lab group is affiliated with The Linguistics Program and The Center For Language Science at Penn State. |
